From October to April cruise ships dock at the Piedra Buena pier in Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Most ships arrive between 7 and 9 am and leave between 5 and 7 pm, which gives you 8 to 10 hours ashore. That is enough for the Valdes Peninsula, the Punta Tombo penguin colony or a shorter city tour, as long as the logistics are planned around your ship’s schedule.

Is Puerto Madryn safe to explore on my own?
Yes. The pier is a short walk from the town center and the waterfront. For Valdes Peninsula or Punta Tombo you need a vehicle: distances are 180 to 200 km each way.
Will I make it back to the ship on time?
Our itineraries are built backwards from your all-aboard time, with at least 60 minutes of margin.
Can I see penguins from a cruise stop?
Yes, from September to April at Punta Tombo, about 2 h 15 min each way. You need at least 7 hours in port.
